Wait and See

I’ve officially decided against going back to school in January (see previous blog post entitled Pros and Cons).  Perhaps in a couple years I’ll re-apply and give it a go, but for now, in the thick of other school loans, a house on the market that refuses to sell, and the uncertainty of where I’ll be living by the end of next year, I’m just going to wait and see.

Sigh.

The one thing that comes to mind is what Birdie tells Kathleen Kelley in You’ve Got Mail, right after The Shop around the Corner closes: “You are daring to imagine you could have a different life!  You are marching into the unknown armed with . . . nothing.”

Of course, that’s the half-empty way of looking at this.  The half-full version would insist that what I want to accomplish most in life is to publish a book or two, open a coffeehouse, and travel extensively – none of which require that I take out a huge loan in order to obtain a Master’s degree.

In the mean-time . . . I’ll continue to work, write fiction, and raise my kid (or pretend to be a kid with him?).  Plus I’ve got a few hobbies that could use some attention.  Can’t go into further detail, though, because that would spoil my New Year’s resolutions (wouldn’t want to jinx my resolve).

  1. Sometimes we have to make decisions in which is best for US! It sounds like you did that, so definitely look at the "Half Full" version of this!

Who knows what doors may open from this!

    Good luck!

  4. Dear Lauren, I am surrounded by people going back to school & people becoming teachers but ya know I don't want to do it because a)I JUST finished off a huge loan & just can not get into another and b)I have never had the inkling to teach and c)it'll just be time away from my true dreams of art full time...to me, it truly sounds like your in tune with what path will best lead you to your dreams and that is step 1...you can achieve it, you can...and I am going to keep coming back to this lovely blog of yours to watch your beautiful brave journey. Have a wonderful day.

  7. Tough decision, but one that only you can make. I think you should just give in and be a kid with him, LOL! Isn't it amazing how they see the world?
