An Awfully Big Adventure

It's a rainy Saturday morning in Denmark.

We had plans, but the downpour kept us in ... so we're making breakfast, American-diner style. And planning last-minute details for our September travels.

We've got round-trip tickets to Berlin (where the adventure begins), a rental car, hotel/hostel reservations, and an oh-so-basic itinerary (so much to see, so little time). I'll admit, I am a firm believer in semi-unplanned roadtrips.

Here's a general idea of our three-week mad-dash:

Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Croatia, Venice, Verona, Lake Garda, Berne, Zurich, Neuschanstein, Heidelberg, and back to Berlin, with brief stops in Slovakia and Slovenia - making for a grand total of eight countries! ♥

... And now I am compiling a playlist for the road (best roadtrip song recommendations, please?), as well as The Wind and the Willows audio book, and the complete Pimsleur Spanish program. (Why yes, I do plan on spending half the road trip quoting the river Rat, and the other half yelling out things like "La burocracia es un mecanismo gigante operado por pigmeos!")

It's going to be an awfully big adventure.

P.S.

For those of you nearest and dearest to my heart: I am going to try and post brief blog updates as I go, however this may not always be possible. This is no reason to panic and start calling consulates.

Lorelai: You gave her an itinerary and she called every consulate in the world!
Rory: If we were caught smuggling hash over the border and we were thrown in some Turkish prison, wouldn't you want someone to know that we were in Turkey?
Lorelai: Where'd we get this hash we were smuggling?
Rory: You were at a cafe, you met a guy, he was sweet-talking you, he put the stuff in your purse when you weren't looking.
Lorelai: At least tell me he was cute.
Rory: He wasn't bad for a hash dealer.

    1. True. ;) Only I have to ... My music collection is primarily in the States, and I lost my hard-drive where I had everything backed up ... so I have to make a playlist from complete scratch. Otherwise no music in the rental car.
