The A la Mama-Poppins Interviews // POST 1 ♥

A little about you:
I’m a 31 year old mama living in North Wales, UK. I’m a jewellery designer, a blogger, a coffee lover, a book reader and an adventurer.

A little about your family:
My family is made up of myself, my husband, three home-schooled daughters, three cats, three guinea pigs and six chickens (I have dreams of having a farm of my own)!

A few of your favorite things about being a mother:
Morning snuggles; watching them learn a new skills.
And a couple of the hardest things:
Sleepless nights are the hardest for me... this mama needs her sleep. Also seeing them sick.
A ‘my kid did this funny thing’ anecdote:
My middle daughter, age two, decided she couldn’t wait five minutes more for her dinner, so she ate a two pence coin. We ended up on the children's ward for the night as they thought it was stuck... an eight-month pregnant mama trying to snuggle her baby on a hospital bed does not make for a fun night! They sent us home the next morning. We think the coin is still in there somewhere (four years later)!
A few parenting resources you like:
The best parenting book I read was What Mothers Do by Naomi Stadlen. Also a hot bath and candles can soothe even the most frayed mama nerves.

One or two personal family traditions:
H
alf birthdays – we always celebrate these! The kiddos love it. We make a half birthday cake (simply a round cake cut in half and sandwiched together), and have a special half birthday tea and play a few games.
Daily things you love to do most (with the kiddos)
Arts and crafts. There’s not many days that the glue and glitter don’t come out!

Best rainy day activities:
Card games, arts and crafts and board games.

Something you like to do by yourself, when taking a break from mommy-duties:  Once in a while, I’ll sneak out and grab a coffee by myself. An hour in a coffee shop with a good book is bliss.

Advice you’d give a mother-to-be, or something you’ve learned as a mama
Being a mama is the hardest job you’ll ever have, but by far the most rewarding.

New year resolutions for your family:
Have lots of adventures; be kind and respectful to each other.

Last but not least, a quote about motherhood that you love:
“Mothers are all slightly insane.” J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

  1. Polly, one of my favorite parts of this interview was the half-birthday. I absolutely adore this idea! I think I'll need to take up the tradition for my little family as well. Won't Isaac be exited? ;)
